New book ‘Design for Values: Aims, Methods, and Applications’ now available

We are happy to announce that Design for Values: Aims, Methods, and Applications by Jeroen van den Hoven, Ibo van de Poel and Pieter Vermaas has been published by Wiley. It is the first book-length introduction to the Design for Values approach, and the book is now available to order.

Building on thirty years of research at TU Delft and beyond, the book offers a systematic methodology for translating moral and public values, such as sustainability and justice, into concrete design requirements. It shows how designers and engineers can deal with moral overload, value conflicts and stakeholder disagreement, and illustrates the approach with case studies across digital and physical technologies.

The book is written for master and PhD students in engineering, design and ethics of technology, as well as for practicing engineers, designers, managers and policy makers. Together with the Handbook of Ethics, Values and Technological Design and Teaching Design for Values, it is one of the foundational works of the Delft Design for Values Institute.
