Book launch Teaching Design for Values at Pakhuis de Zwijger

Roberto Rocco, Amy Thomas and María Novas-Ferradás launched their book “Teaching Design for Values: Concepts, Tools & Practices” on the 5^th of February at the Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam. The book aims to examine the concepts, methods and experiences of teaching design for values withing a variety of fields, including urbanism, engineering, architecture, artificial intelligence and industrial design.

The editors received SEED funding of the Delft Design for Values Institute to officially launch and publish it open access by TU Delft Open. The book features fourteen chapters authored by both TU Delft educators and international contributors reflecting the growing body of research on the theory and application of design for values. Diverse perspectives within various pedagogical contexts provided valuable insights for educators and practitioners.

The book launch at Pakhuis de Zwijger included discussions on the ethics of technology and the significance of teaching design for values, with contributions from the book editors, and chapter authors Charlotte Kobus, Lisa Magnier and Vanessa Zadel. Ibo van de Poel, scientific director of the Delft Design for Values, reflected on teaching design for values and the impact of the book. The discussion was moderated by Faezeh Mohammadi.
