Values and Value Conflicts workshop: Navigating the interplay between Explainability and Privacy in AI

The Delft Design for Values Institute launched a workshop series on values and value conflicts, aiming to promote understanding of ethical implications of design and innovation. Management Team member Dr. Megha Khosla, Assistant Professor in the Multimedia Computing Group at TU Delft, led the first workshop in this series.

The workshop on February 8th to 9th highlighted the importance of ethics in the design of AI systems, focusing on explainability and privacy to build trust. Together we explored these values, the tensions between them, specifically when looking at applications in Healthcare. Experts in the field presented novel methodologies aimed at enhancing the understanding of associated risks and ways to assess them, while emphasizing the potential for developing AI systems that prioritize both explainability and privacy.
