The Delft Design for Values Institute has been extended for another five years

The Delft Design for Values Institute has been extended for another five years (2023 – 2027). The Executive Board of TU Delft (CvB) has appointed with Prof. Ibo van de Poel (TBM/VTI) as new scientific director.

Design for Values is aimed at systematically integrating values of moral importance from the start in the design process of products, services and systems. The institute focuses on a broad range of values including safety, sustainability, privacy, justice & fairness, diversity & inclusion, well-being, etc.; as well as on a broad range of a wide range of domains and applications areas, like smart cities, healthcare, water management, infrastructure, energy, and consumer products.

The Delft Design for Values Institute (DDfV) brings together expertise in design and (moral) values, and is a collaboration between five faculties: TPM, IDE, BK, CTIG and EEMCS. In the first period prof. dr. Jeroen van den Hoven was the scientific director. In the second period this will be prof. dr. ir. Ibo van de Poel. The Management Board consist further of representatives of the five participating faculties: Carola Hein/Rachel Lee (BK), Edo Abraham (CiTG), Marina Bos–De Vos (IDE), Megha Khosla (EEMCS), and Michael Klenk (TBM) and Marielle Feenstra (TBM – Managing Staff DDfV), and María Novas Ferradás (BK – Managing Staff DDfV).

The institute has formulated the following four ambitions for the next five years: 1) Consolidating DDfV as an international leading knowledge institute in the field of design and values, 2) Acquiring external funding for interdisciplinary research on Design for Values 3) Integrating Design for Values in educational programs at the TU Delft 4) Increasing external visibility through an annual theme. For 2023 the annual theme will be Design for Justice.
