DDfV to host TU Delft Dies Symposium
On Friday 10 January 2020, the Dies Natalis of the TU Delft will be celebrated. The theme for this edition is ‘Design for Values’. In the afternoon, the official Academic Ceremony will take place, in which DDfV boardmember Paul Hekkert will give the Dies Lecture, and two Honorary Doctorates will be bestowed on Batya Friedman and Marco Steinberg.
In the morning of the Dies Natalis, Delft Design for Values Institute will host the Dies Symposium: Design for Values. Two research pillars of the institute are placed central in the program: Value Conflict and Value Dynamics. The symposium will comprise keynote speeches from the two honorary doctors, as well as interactive sessions in which TUD researchers share and discuss their work with the honorary doctors and the audience. The event will encompass what it means to design for values, and investigate how to address the urgent need for engineers and designers to systematically and critically reflect on the social impact of their designs and technologies. Read all about the program, speakers and practicalities on the Symposium’s event page.
In the week preceding the Dies Natalis two DDfV satellite events are organized:
- On 8 January, future honorary doctor Batya Friedman will present the book ‘Value Sensitive Design’ that she recently published together with David Hendry during a Book Talk at the TU Delft Campus.
- On 9 January, the project team of the ‘TU Delft Handbook on Architectural and Urban Design for Values‘ will organize a kick off symposium for which all TU Delft researchers are invited.
We hope to see many of you at these events!
