Darinka Czischke Awarded Vidi Grant for Research on Collaborative Housing Preferences
Dr. Darinka Czischke, Associate Professor at TU Delft’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, has been awarded a prestigious Vidi grant by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for her project InCommon: Reconceptualising Individual and Collective Housing Preferences. This five-year research initiative aims to explore the motivations behind individuals’ choices to live in collaborative housing arrangements, such as co-housing and community-led developments.
The InCommon project aims to understand the values and attributes associated with collective living and how these preferences can inform the design and development of housing that promotes social connection, affordability, and environmental sustainability. By examining both current residents of collaborative housing and those who have not yet chosen such living arrangements, the research will provide insights into the potential for broader adoption of these housing models.
Dr. Czischke’s work builds upon her extensive experience in housing research, including her open-access book Together: Towards Collaborative Living, which investigates the rise of collective self-organisation in housing across Europe. The findings from InCommon are expected to contribute to a new conceptualisation of ‘home’ and offer practical guidance for policymakers and industry stakeholders in designing housing solutions that align with evolving societal values.
