Technology, Ethics & COVID-19: Statement by European advisory group
Scientific Director Jeroen van den Hoven of The Delft Design for Values Institute is permanent member of the Ethics Group (EGE) that advises the President of the European Commission on Ethics of Science and New Technology. EGE has published a Statement on Ethics and the Covid-19 pandemic:
The COVID19 pandemic will leave its impact on our societies long after the immediate effects of the virus. The EthicsGroup_EU calls for a rallying of solidarity at the European and global level and underline the core ethical considerations that must shape the pathway out of the pandemic. The outbreak of COVID19 around the globe requires us not only to refine the management of our healthcare systems, but also our notions of trust and solidarity. These are among the ethical societal concerns unpacked by the EthicsGroup_EU in its latest Statement.
